This guide exists to help disabled residents and visitors find accessible places and services across Badenoch & Strathspey.
Scotrail serves stations at the villages of Carrbridge, Aviemore, Kingussie, Newtonmore and Dalwhinnie. There are regular train services to Inverness in the North, and to Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh to the South.
LNER runs one train each day to and from London King’s Cross, stopping at Aviemore, Kingussie and Newtonmore.
If you need assistance with boarding or alighting, or you wish to reserve a wheelchair space, you can request Assisted Travel in advance. If you don’t have time to book beforehand, speak to staff at the staffed stations (Aviemore and Kingussie) or use the Help Point on the platform.

Express Coaches
Services are provided by Citylink, Megabus and Flixbus.
Passengers on intercity coaches who require assistance or wish to book wheelchair or mobility scooter space are recommended to book online.
For Citylink coaches go to citylink.co.uk and you can reserve a wheelchair space via the general booking system. Help is also available by email at info@citylink.co.uk or by telephone on 0141 352 4444.
Flixbus (flixbus.co.uk) requires wheelchair passengers to book 7-14 days in advance for wheelchairs in the passenger cabin or at least 36 hours in advance for folding wheelchairs in the hold.

For all intercity coaches it is possible to just turn up at the bus stop, but space for wheelchair cannot be guaranteed unless booked.
The coaches all have wheelchair lifts and the drivers are trained to provide assistance if the customer requests help.
Assistance is also available at Inverness, Perth, Halbeath, Edinburgh and Glasgow Interchanges.
Local Bus services
The local bus fleet run by Stagecoach Highland has been updated and the majority of buses have low floor buses and ramps for wheelchair access.
There is no booking system for wheelchair users on local services, but wheelchairs have priority over prams etc. and generally there is room for them on the bus.
If the bus is unable to take you onboard for any reason, the bus driver is required to phone the local depot and make alternative arrangements for your journey.

Local community transport company Community Connexions provides local transport for those unable to access suitable scheduled local bus services.
Community Connexions is a charity run by salaried staff and volunteers from the local community. Their service is available to all.
They can provide transport for example for hospital appointments, grocery shopping, social events, etc.
Community Connexions staff and volunteers are on hand to support clients with different needs to get out and about and participate in varied activities from shopping to picnics by the loch, providing a valuable conduit for those with differing abilities to engage with wider society.
