Access guide: Laggan

Laggan is a village in the South West of Badenoch and Strathspey at the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Strategically located on the A86 by a bridge over the river Spey, the sparsely populated hamlet is spread over a fairly wide area. It featured as the village of Glenbogle in the TV series 'Monarch of the Glen'.

There is a hotel and a cafe and a number of self catering establishments.

There is a public toilet with disabled facilities at the junction by the bridge. There is a community hall and a health centre.

The 17th Century church is now owned by the community and holds occasional religious services. Well worth a look inside at its well preserved timber structure, pulpit, pipe organ and windows.

There are few pavements and some steep slopes. There is a park and nature walk in the village with ramps for disabled access, although the surface might be difficult for wheelchair use.

Laggan is an ideal base for exploring this area of the National Park. Nearby mountain biking trails are popular.

Laggan is served by bus service 140 connecting with Newtonmore Kingussie and Aviemore. It runs only on school days and at school starting and finishing times. There is no rail service.
